Socks! Galore! (scarves wanna be)

well, 'Galore' might be an exaggeration!

but alrighty!!! i pulled out all the sock yarn, went thru my needles - i prefer size 1 DPNs, working on both socks at once & had to make sure i had enough!! picked out sock yarn (that called my name to be knitted) --- looked at many patterns --- started 4 socks (welp, 2pairs!)

1 pair is smaller and will go faster (i hope i hope i hope!). of course they are Spooky Vesper Sock Yarn socks for L J :) oh, don't worry L B yours are in the works too!!!

the other pair is feather & fan from Socks, Socks, Socks! book -- with the yarn i dyed a couple nights ago!!

see how far the Kill Bill ones are --- YAY! i'll be done with them tonight and wearing them to work tomorrow -- they are soooo very very soft and comfy. i did change the heel to a garter short row. these are the ones from the 6sox kal, skin scales or scales skin pattern or something!

started some scarves too, got hooked during ISE3. there are so many pretty, lacy scarves out there - the lace pattern i chose i found in an old collection of patterns,,,,,but i also ordered a kit from Morehouse Farm -- pretty cute, huh!

"Skip" Socks!

welp, a friend asked how i came up with the blog name of Mamere Knits Too Much. guess i should offer a little bit of info,

I have 3 boys: J J & T.

J is married to S and they have 4 children: A J, L B, L J, L M.

A J gave me the name Mamere & hubby the name Poppy!

L J was here one day and said "Mamere you knit too much" edited to clarify: i don't just 'knit', this was said on a day i was trying to finish a row...i bike, play hide&seek, jump on trampoline, slide down twisty slide, nature walk, swing - do just about any activity asked - he was tired of waiting - the row was long!

i'd been talking about starting a blog and......so there ya go!!! pretty simple huh!

i had to "skip" knitting socks tonight which is a bummer for me ----now the "skip" is a reference to my sis J who invented "skip" night at her house when her kids were young and she didn't want to make dinner. when one of them asked what's for dinner and she hollered "skip" it meant fend for/feed yourself, i'm not doing it!

i found that so funny, i had to try it myself - sometimes it works -but most times not - guess i should have trained better!

so here's a me&mommy pic

Spaghetti Socks! & sleeping

hee hee, look what i've done!!

all wound up!

sleep well my lovelies!!!

notes to self:

1. vinegar added to whatever dye form chosen makes colors more vivid.

2. complete darkness (when having to use flash) takes better pictures,,,,,however it is very hard to get subject in frame!

Socks! toberfest!

so, my first finished sockies were L M's spooky socks. this boy is growing fast, he'll only wear them a couple of weeks, that's ok with me tho, i didn't like the heel and other parts - the pattern for the cuff itself was ok....but, they wouldn't stay on his cute baby feet - guess i'll have to invent my own pattern!

the socks for the cancer auction were my second finished socks & they are lovely!(even if i do say so myself!) i was requested to make size 7 and had to find several people with size 7 feet to try them on. yippee! all of them said they fit grrreat and felt nice in their shoes. two of them wanted to keep 'em :) i can only hope that whoever wins them will also love them.

the lady at work is a survivor and she's the one who asked me to knit, i sent her off to the LYS and she came back with Lornas Laces - can't remember color but have used LL and it's nice to work with, had some pooling but she likes it!!!

now.....i'm finishing up the Kill Bill socks! one is done and the other will be exclusively (yea, right!) worked on today.

who cares that all the sock yarn is out on the bed and i'm contemplating 4-5 different patterns plus one that will just be plain so i can knit without carrying around a pattern. PLUS i need to start the Spooky socks for L B & L J !

and who cares that the dishes need to be, the floors need to be, the bathroom needs to be, and the yard needs to be!!! hubby went off flying so why should i have to....ya know???

and i'm waiting for the superwash sock yarn i dyed with Flavoraid and food color to dry so i can wind it and see how the colors came out!!!!

happy weekend!

Not Socks!

woo hoo! lookie what came home to me!

my mommy made this for me when i was little! it's from Workbasket Dec 1971. she made 4 (i think)

sis M somehow saved them and she sent me mine several years ago--this was & is a major feat since Mom gave away most of my/our childhood --and then stated "but i didn't think any of you would want that stuff" - there are 8 of us (me-i'm #7) and i'm sure we could & would have fought each other for all of it!

Mom knit & crocheted (still does) for....well...all of my life. Hats, mittens, ponchos, dresses, sweaters, afghans, etc. and boy! what i wouldn't give to have all that for my grandkids.

the dress is made from Red Heart yarn. i'm telling you, this stuff wears like IRON! this dress is like 30+ years old!! oh, and i DO have the pattern and made L B her own pink - very pink dress - she had to,,,,just had to,,,, have it --floor length!

don't tell! i don't like Red Heart! - Mom loves the stuff!

L B has been wearing it for the past couple of years and even when it got too small, she'd sometimes wear it to bed. Guess her momba convinced her that it should go back to Mamere. I have the belt too, need to find it and put them together.

I remember that when we first got it out to have her try on- she used the belt as a leash to walk her brother down the hallway!!!

after much laughter (and then concern that she might choke her brother), her mom & i put the belt "away".

any idea where "away" is now??

Socks! & Socktoberfest

Hi! so.......me & the socks & the sock yarn are going to participate in Socktoberfest. Gonna be fun! all you really have to do is knit socks during October. Easy for me! and if you're interested...lots of info over at LollyKnitting Around.

this special Vesper sock yarn is going to be the start of my socks for Socktober!! Yay! meee! i scored some VESPER sock yarn!! still not sure how i managed that....i went to the shop, there was only one skein,,,,wasn't even sure of the colorway, just had to have it!

My answers to the first week questions:

When did you start making socks? Did you teach yourself or were you taught by a friend or relative? or in a class?

several years ago - taught myself - had help (sorta) - a one sentence comment from a very nice lady/customer at B&N bookstore who asked me (as i was muttering to myself) if she could help and i responded that i couldn't seem to "join" the DPNs - she informed me that i was attempting to connect "like this, when it should be like that" and i've never looked back! i do wonder how she is and regret that i might not have thanked her enough!

What was your first pair? How have they "held up" over time?

a pair from Learn to Knit Socks ...no clue if they still exist, my sister "L" has/had them

What would you have done differently?

well - they turned out better than expected for my first pair, but small - hence the gift to my sister with small feet - i might have braved unknitting the kitchener stitch and making them fit ME!

What yarns have you particularly enjoyed?

Dani - Sunshine Yarns, Black Bunny Fibers, Socks That Rock, also Trekking, Opal & Cherry Tree Hill

Do you like to crochet your socks? or knit them on DPNs, 2 circulars, or using the Magic Loop method?

haha, have crocheted 1 (yes - one!) sock. sent my sis "M" the rest of the yarn to crochet the 2nd but she never did, we're going on 10 years ago if not more! i like knit socks better.

i prefer DPNs --tho i've used ML, depends on sock pattern.

Which kind of heel do you prefer? (flap? or short-row?)

hmmmm, short row mostly, like how it fits in my shoe, but EOP is pretty and use that also.

How many pairs have you made?

oh boy, not many....30 or so, over half were "gifted" -- remember people -- WEAR the socks i make you or i'll come reclaim them and you won't get anymore !!!

Socks! & Yarn & Scarf

the socks that went flying are growing.....i have til Oct 20 to finish so.....of course i started more socks! reading other blogs that were reviewing the KnitPicks.com : Needles : Search Results, i purchased some -- they're really very nice for magic loop (HA! it just means i have more needles for socks!).

i've added more sock yarn to my already "impossible to ever knit" stash. i love, love, love Dani - Sunshine Yarns and have many skeins! oh & other yarns are mixed in there...plus this is only a small (very small!) sample of my sock yarn! i'm not sure i could ever show it all - i want to LIVE!

My pal's ISE3 scarf is done & made from Black Bunny Fibers, a very lovely, soft yarn! but i can't reveal too much. it's time to mail it out after getting some goodies to go with it. so here are pics with the cartoon feature!

L B models scarf

L J simply wears it!
